When most people think of a night out at The Franklin Theatre, they picture great music and good company. For Eric Larsen, President of the 21st District Recovery Court and founding attorney of Larsen Law, that night means something deeper — it means another year of fighting for the people his community too often forgets.

On April 21st, Larsen helped bring the 4th annual The Stories Behind the Songs to life at the historic Franklin Theatre, an intimate singer-songwriter fundraiser that drew a packed house and some of country music's biggest names: HARDY, Charles Kelley of Lady A, and The Warren Brothers. It was an evening of raw storytelling, powerful music, and real-life redemption — the kind of night that reminds you why community matters.

"We want people to know that we're proud to have a recovery court here," said Executive Director Connie Martin. "We're helping to turn people's lives around. One person to complete our program is one less person in jail, and one less person on the street."

That mission aligns closely with the values Larsen brings to his legal practice every day. As an attorney, he understands better than most what happens when the justice system meets addiction — and what's possible when it offers a hand up instead of just a cell door. The 21st District Recovery Court gives nonviolent offenders struggling with substance abuse a two-year, court-supervised recovery program rather than a traditional sentence, equipping them with the tools they need to truly rebuild their lives.

The results speak for themselves. In its 25 years, the program has produced over 375 graduates. More than 70% remain clean and arrest-free after returning to the community.

Before the music started, the audience watched testimonials from graduates — people once defined by addiction and incarceration, now business owners, parents, and neighbors. There wasn't a dry eye in the room. Then HARDY, The Warren Brothers, and Charles Kelley took the stage, delivering a set full of heart and honesty. Kelley's own sobriety story brought the room to a standstill.

Following last year's headline appearance by Jelly Roll, the event continues to grow in both star power and impact — a reflection of the leadership Eric Larsen brings to everything he's a part of.

All proceeds from The Stories Behind the Songs go directly toward housing, clothing, and essential needs for those moving through the Recovery Court program.
