In some cases, it may take little more than the words of another party for authorities to become suspicious of the presence of drug activity. Regardless of the intent behind such allegations, police may initiate an investigation into the matter, and being the subject of a similar process can be stressful and intimidating. Two individuals are facing drug charges after complaints of suspicious behavior led to the search of a hotel room in Tennessee.

According to police, the investigation began when they received information from an unknown source about suspicious behavior and a strong smell of marijuana coming from a hotel room. Upon arriving at the scene, they claim to have discovered various amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana in plain sight. In addition, police also assert that three young kids were in the room at the time, and that the drugs were within their reach.

Both individuals were taken into custody shortly thereafter, and each stands accused of drug charges and child endangerment. In addition, authorities have advised that additional charges may be filed in relation to a handgun that was allegedly found at the scene. According to reports, their children were released into the custody of the Department of Children's Services.

With the potential gravity of a conviction for drug charges, those accused of similar crimes may find it advisable to seek guidance as soon as the charges are filed. By consulting with a defense attorney, a person in Tennessee could obtain advice on making informed decisions throughout the process. An attorney can assist a client in forming a strong defense, and if a conviction cannot be avoided, assist in pursuing a lesser sentence during subsequent legal proceedings.
